The data presented in this case study is drawn from 2017 research on IDPs’ protection needs carried out by Samuel Hall for the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). A large quantitative survey was conducted in Herat, Kabul, Kandahar, Kunduz and Nangarhar provinces, where data was collected in rural, peri-urban and urban areas. Of 2,580 respondents, 1,161 were returnee-IDPs and 1,420 other IDPs. The sample data is neither representative nor random, but combined with focus group discussions with displaced people and other community members, the research captures their narratives, protection needs and experiences.

FMFBA - Assessing Potential for Micro Finance in Rural Livelihoods

The First Micro Finance Bank (FMFB) has commissioned a report to conduct market research for the potential to disburse micro finance services in Bamyan and Kunduz provinces in Afghanistan. The objective is to inform FMFB of community preferences for micro finance so that it may tailor its products and delivery to adjust to their needs within the business end goals.

MACCA - Reintegration of Former Combatants into Demining

September 2012

HALO Trust has reintegrated more than 300 former Taliban and Hezbi Islami combatants in Baghlan and Kunduz provinces into its demining ranks and trained them as community-based deminers. This case study examined the work that HALO Trust had done to support the APRP’s reintegration of former combatants.

Mercy Corps - Economic Assessment and Labour Market Survey

November 2011

This economic assessment report is based on desk research, labour market assessments and analyses and key stakeholder interviews in the four targeted provinces – Balkh, Baghlan, Kunduz and Kandahar – to identify growth sectors and jobs and technical vocational skills in greatest demand in each province in order to inform a skills training programme design process.
