Joan Mwangi

Research Intern

Joan joined Samuel Hall in 2024 as a research intern in Pillar 1: Research and Policy. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from The University of British Columbia, where she developed a solid understanding of political systems and dynamics. Building upon this foundation, she pursued a Master of Letters (MLitt) in International Political Theory from The University of St Andrews, delving deeper into complex global issues and theoretical frameworks.

Currently, Joan is actively engaged in doctoral studies, pursuing a Ph.D. in International Development at SOAS, University of London. Her research focuses on exploring the intersection of development policies, forced displacement, and humanitarian aid, with a particular emphasis on gender dynamics within these contexts. Her academic journey reflects a passion for understanding and addressing the socio-political complexities that shape our world.

In addition to their academic pursuits, Joan has gained valuable experience in various professional domains. She has collaborated with diverse stakeholders in developing strategic partnerships, leveraging her expertise to foster meaningful collaborations aimed at addressing pressing social and economic challenges. Her financial acumen was instrumental in managing budgets and securing funding for projects, demonstrating a keen ability to navigate financial landscapes effectively. As a dedicated educator, Joan has also contributed to the academic community through teaching and mentorship roles.
