The Purple Coalition on Climate Change (PCCC)

From lived realities to policy influence

The Purple Coalition on Climate Change (PCCC) is a pan-African, women-led coalition working at the intersection of climate change, gender, mobility and care. It brings together women leaders, grassroots organisations, researchers and advocates to make sure climate policy and finance are shaped by lived experience and community-led solutions.

PCCC was established in 2024 through the Feminist Coalition Building Exercise led by Samuel Hall and the UNDP Resilience Hub [link to the UNDP report]. It began with 17 founding members from 10 African countries and, by July 2026, had grown to 25 members from 11 countries. It is now developing as an independent, member-led platform.

Why purple? Purple represents the often-unrecognised care and community labour, much of it carried out by women, that sustains families and adaptation.

Why we exist

Women-led climate solutions remain under-recognised and underfunded. PCCC works on three questions:
  1. Recognition: whose knowledge counts? Women’s lived experience, care work and local adaptation practices are credible climate evidence.
  2. Power: who shapes decisions? Women and communities must shape priorities and policy, not just be consulted after agendas are set.
  3. Access: who gets resourced? Climate finance and policy spaces must reach women-led and community-rooted action.

What we do

  • Document what works in women-led and community-rooted adaptation and mobility
  • Turn lived realities into policy influence in national climate plans, African regional processes and COP
  • Advocate for climate finance that reaches women-led and locally led solutions
  • Build narrative and collective power, showing women as leaders and solution builders, not only as vulnerable groups.

Want to get involved?

PCCC welcomes members working on climate, gender, mobility, care or social justice, especially those leading women-led, youth-led, Indigenous, pastoralist or community-based initiatives. It also welcomes partners who can use its evidence, co-create advocacy, connect networks or resource member-led work.
