World Vision International: Compounding returns: A study on remittance loss and the cost of deportations

This research examines how rising deportations of Afghan migrants, particularly from Iran, are affecting households that rely on remittances for their daily survival. Through mixed-methods research conducted across Herat, Faryab, and Kabul, Samuel Hall led fieldwork, surveys, interviews, and analysis to document how the sudden loss of remittance income is pushing families into debt, food insecurity, school dropouts, and other harmful coping strategies, while also impacting local markets and community support systems. The report provides ground-level evidence to inform programming and advocacy aimed at supporting families affected by deportations and economic shocks in Afghanistan
